With Gentle Resolve for 2018

I’m not much for New Year’s Resolutions.  They’ve become cliches of failure – no one really expects anyone to truly follow through, and then, when we do inevitably fail, we feel shame which isn’t good for anyone.

I have been thinking, however, about the year ahead and how I would like it to evolve and the ways I would like to be different as I move through this world.  I share these meditations with you and welcome you to share your thoughts with me.

In the coming year I resolve to work towards:

  1. Being truly present with those around me, not letting my restless mind pull me into worries or plans or distraction.
  2. Giving myself permission to truly enjoy the many blessings in my life. My idea of a perfect hour is to sit in the garden with a cup of coffee and read a good book, and yet I don’t think I have spent even one hour this year doing that.  I hope by this time next year to report that I indulged frequently.
  3. To be careful with committing to more than I can honestly accomplish and to give myself permission to say no when that is the wise choice.
  4. And gratitude, always gratitude – for the amazing people in my life, for the exquisite beauty around me, for energy and health and resources and the kindness that comes my way.

May we all have a peaceful, intriguing, joy-full and loving 2018.  May all who walk this earth have enough food to eat, a safe place to live and love and the opportunity to become the exquisite human being they were meant to be.
